What Is St John Cadets

St John Cadets is an active program for young people that aims to develop leadership and team buildings skills, while developing long lasting friendship and endless fun, while serving the community.

As a St John Cadet you can:

  • Learn life saving First Aid skills
  • Attend First Aid duties, assisting ill and injured members of the public, in a caring and supervised environment
  • Enhance career opportunities in the healthcare industry
  • Belong to an active vibrant youth program
  • Attend recreational camps, youth leadership and promotion courses
  • Become a cadet officer or leader or assist train younger cadets
  • Meet new people and make lifelong friends
  • Provide your local community with an invaluable service

Cadets (11 - 17 years)

While First Aid is the key focus of what you do as a St John Cadet, you will also develop leadership and social skills in a spirit of community service.

As a Cadet you can go on duty and assist (under adult supervision) in treating patients at First Aid duties.

Once you turn 14 there are opportunities for advanced training in areas such as senior First Aid and resuscitation.

St John Juniors emphasise fun, helping people and participation. As a St John Junior you will participate in camps, excursions and adventure activities, as well as basic First Aid training.

You'll have the chance to earn Interest badges, which are achieved in a variety of activities like computing, sports, animal care, personal and road safety and much more.

Juniors (8 - 11 years)

St John Juniors emphasize fun, helping people and participation. As a St John Junior you will participate in camps, excursions and adventure activities, as well as basic first aid training.

You'll have the chance to earn Interest badges, which are achieved in a variety of activities like computing, sports, animal care, personal and road safety and much more.

Information for Parents

St John is a national organisation with over 2500 Volunteers in Victoria. Those wanting to join St John will join their local division which meet weekly.

St John cadets are aged from 8 to 17 years of age. As well as training in basic First Aid, the cadet program aims to foster teamwork and encourage personal development by promoting participation and a sense of fun.

St John has a clear Child Protection Policy and all adult members of the organisation are required to undergo a Police Check prior to being accepted as a member of the organisation. St John also has a Peer Support program which assists in helping members of the organization with counseling services if they are required.
